Romantic Surgeons

This film explores the emotional experiences and expressions of late eighteenth- and early nineteenth-century surgeons, who operated in the decades before the introduction of anaesthesia. It challenges the stereotype of the pre-anaesthetic surgeon as hard-hearted butcher and communicates, instead, the emotional richness of Romantic surgical culture. With Dr Michael Brown, Dr James Kennaway and Lauren Ryall-Stockton.
